UNDERCOVER Taps Painter UC EAST for Latest MADSTORE Capsule
Offering a new interpretation of the UNDERCOVER Bear.
Originally conceptualized in 2013 as a shop within a shop housed in the PARCO department store in Shibuya, MADSTORE by UNDERCOVER has looked to explore the brand’s dark pop world with more casual-minded pieces over the past decade. Following its collaboration with CYDERHOUSE last winter, MADSTORE now taps up-and-coming painter UC EAST for a new joint series.
Born in Tokushima Prefecture and now based in Osaka, UC EAST started her career specializing in live paintings inspired by club culture. In addition to live performances with various musicians, she has also been involved in various solo/group exhibitions, album cover art design, apparel collaborations, and more.
For her latest project, UC EAST paints special interpretations of the MADSTORE UNDERCOVER text logo and UNDERCOVER’s Bear figure. The UNDERCOVER teddy bear is drawn in a distinct black-and-white melting effect and arrives on a series of oversized T-shirts and canvas tote bags.
The MADSTORE UNDERCOVER x UC EAST items are now available at the UNDERCOVER’s webstore and select retailers in Japan. Prices range from ¥6,050 JPY for the totes to ¥11,000 JPY for tees ($47 to $86 USD).
