One Block Down and PORTER Present "Hazy Smoky Night" Bag Capsule
Releasing four new carrying options pictured in a unique cinematic series.
Following collaborations with Doraemon and TOGA, heritage Japanese accessories brand, Porter-Yoshida & Co. taps Italian label One Block Down for an exclusive four-piece Spring/Summer 2022 collection titled “Hazy Smoky Night.” Silhouettes in the capsule feature new takes on PORTER’s iconic carrying options including the Nylon Tote Bag, Key Case, Bonsac, and Wallet. The accessories are dressed in PORTER’s three-layer fabrics used for MA-1 flight jackets, and natural canvas, which has been at the heart of One Block Down’s operation since day one — stretching back to its beginnings when every customer would receive a natural canvas tote. Exteriors are found in cream, and interiors are lined in vintage army-green nylon, a nod to PORTER’s military clothing inspiration. Co-branding appears in the form of two stitched labels on the exterior pockets, and large fabric tags adorn the openings and industrial nylon straps.
In conjunction with the release, One Block Down has produced three short films and a photography series weaving a storyline revolving around the key protagonist, Lobby Boy. Filmed in a style and setting reminiscent of Wes Anderson‘s Grand Budapest Hotel, One Block Down crafts a unique offbeat world showcasing the collaboration.
Positioning its brand as an archive of subcultural stories and a bridge between past movements and the contemporary culture, One Block Down takes this unique opportunity to explore the world of cinema. “It looked at iconic scenes in cinema history and referenced notable moments found in the works of Wes Anderson, Guy Ritchie, and Stanley Kubrick, along with sequences in ever-popular productions like Home Alone 2,” the label wrote in a press release. “The medley of genres that serve as influences allowed One Block Down to extract and reimagine some of the most emblematic cinematic visuals and, in turn, underpin their importance in film history.”
The One Block Down x PORTER collection will be available at the One Block Down website and physical stores beginning on April 29.
