Pixar on Thursday dropped off the second official trailer for Lightyear, an upcoming sci-fi adventure movie that chronicles the origin story of Toy Story‘s Buzz Lightyear.

The preview sees Chris Evans voice act as the namesake Buzz Lightyear, who appears as a young test pilot that must travel through space to make a name for himself as the titular Space Ranger. Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi voice act as a team of dedicated recruits, while Peter Sohn plays Buzz’s robot companion Sox. Elsewhere, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. round out the cast.

“The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team,” said director Angus MacLane in a statement. “Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast.”

MacLane, who previously helmed Finding Dory, is directing Lightyear from a script written by Pete Docter. The filmmaker added, “Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about. In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.”

Lightyear is slated for premiere on June 17, 2022. Watch the second official trailer above.
