In an interview with Access Hollywood this week, Jim Carrey confirmed that he is planning to retire from acting following his reprisal of Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog sequel.

The 60-year-old actor, who appeared on the show to promote the forthcoming film, was asked to respond to Dolly Parton‘s recent request for Carrey to play her former music partner Porter Wagoner in a future biopic.

“Well, that’s a lovely thing,” he responded, “but I’m retiring.” Carrey then confirmed that he is “fairly serious” about his decision, adding, “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

He continued, “I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

Carrey is known to take sizable breaks from Hollywood — the 2020 premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog marked the actor’s first lead role in a studio film since 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To. During his hiatus from the big screen, Carrey appeared in indie projects The Bad Batch and Dark Crimes.

For Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey returns to the franchise alongside Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, James Marsden and Natasha Rothwell, with Idris Elba joining the cast to voice Knuckles. The Paramount Pictures cut is due out on April 8.
