Chevrolet Is Taking the Corvette Electric
A hybrid version could be releasing as early as next year.
Chevrolet has now confirmed long-held rumors that its iconic Corvette is finally going electric. The automaker took to Twitter to announce the news along with a short video of what appears to be an electric Corvette prototype speeding through the snow. While details remain scarce at the moment, Chevrolet says that an “electrified” version (meaning hybrid) could come as early as 2023 while a fully-electric version will follow later.
The move probably won’t come as a surprise to those following the automotive industry closely. General Motors has long announced plans to only sell electric vehicles by 2035, so it’s only natural for the Corvette to transition into a more sustainable powertrain eventually, just like the new Hummer. Other big industry players in the U.S. such as Ford has already taken its beloved Mustang electric as well with the Mach-E GT.
