First 'Scream 6' Teaser Sees Ghostface Threaten New York City
Premiering in theaters on March 10, 2023.
Following five films set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, the Scream franchise is headed to New York City for its sixth installment, as revealed in the forthcoming film’s first official teaser trailer.
In the one-minute visual, Scream 5‘s Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, whose characters survived the previous film’s brawl, return to the franchise. This time, as the group attempts to leave Woodsboro in the past, Ghostface terrorizes the squad on an NYC subway train headed to Brooklyn, surrounded by dressed-up Halloween partygoers.
Scream staple Courteney Cox returns, along with Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere. New to the franchise are Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and more.
Notably, Neve Campbell, who depicted lead character Sidney Prescott, will not return to the franchise. The actress revealed in June that she was not satisfied with the offer that she was presented for the sixth film. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” she said in a statement. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously helmed the fifth installment, return to direct Scream 6. Writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who penned this year’s Scream, are also on board for the next effort.
