Jordan Brand Flips the “Laney” Color Scheme on This New Air Jordan 1
A remix of 2013’s Air Jordan 1 “Laney,” with alternate materials and a few new embellishments.

Jordan Brand has revived and remixed the Air Jordan 1 “Laney” color scheme for a fresh-yet-familiar release. Inspired by the yellow and blue tones of Laney High School in Wilmington, NC, where Michael Jordan played high school basketball, the “Laney” is the second Air Jordan 1 release of its kind after a very similar style was released in 2013.
This new “Laney,” a women’s colorway, uses a “Varsity Royal/Varsity Maize-Sail-Fire Red” color scheme that’s essentially a flip of the above-mentioned 2013 pair, moving its royal blue hits to the mudguards, eyestays, Swooshes, heels and collar flaps while maize takes up residence on the toeboxes, quarter panels and collars. The overall look would be nearly identical to that of the Nike Dunk Low “UCLA,” but Jordan Brand has differentiated this Air Jordan 1 from its collegiate counterpart by adding hits of Chicago Bulls-esque red and black on the tongue tag as well as adding a sky blue and red hangtag that matches the colors of Chicago’s city flag.
These full-circle details tell the story of MJ’s preps-to-pros journey much in the same way the models like the Air Jordan 1 “UNC to Chicago” do, but turn the clock back even further to nod to MJ’s earliest days. It’s a true testament to Jordan Brand’s storytelling chops that, after almost 40 years, they’re still finding (and remxing) parts of Michael Jordan’s past across Air Jordan colorways.
Expect the women’s Air Jordan 1 “Laney” to touch down on February 17. It’ll be priced at $180 USD.
