eBay and Nike SB Honor Sandy Bodecker's Legacy With a Special Dunk Charity Auction Release
100% of the proceeds will go toward The Bodecker Foundation.
Two decades ago, Nike and its Nike SB division manufactured a pair of SB Dunk Lows that were styled in eBay‘s signature color scheme which ended up getting bought out in an auction for a staggering $30,000 USD. The kicks were purchased by Sandy Bodecker — the late designer who is known for his impactful contributions to Nike SB’s design team, so much in fact that some make the argument that “SB” in the label’s moniker might as well stand for his name instead of skateboarding. The kicks were divvied into pieces to guarantee that the value of the original and its proceeds would benefit the erection of new skate parks in Portland Oregon.
And now to honor his storied legacy, eBay and the Swoosh have linked up to create a special charity auction release centered around the eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low “Sandy Bodecker.” A total of 10 collectors-edition boxes are up for bidding now via eBay. Each kit contains a tribute to the original eBay x Nike Dunk release, the 2022 sneaker installment, a cheeky saw that nods to its motif and a numbered-out-of-10 card, all of which are packaged inside a shoe box that you can actually skate on. 100% of the proceeds will benefit The Bodecker Foundation.
Additionally, the duo has also supplemented the launch by opening the Skate ‘Em Out store in Portland. The store will lend sneaker aficionados and skaters the opportunity to get their hands on various Nike SB Dunk offerings for $65 USD a pair — their original 2002 MSRP of SB shoes. In order to purchase at this price, customers simply must lace up their Nike SB Dunk shoes and skate out of the store.
