TRNK Taps Farrah Sit For Minimal Yet Monolithic Collection

Based on the timelessness of ancient structures.

In its early years, NYC design studio TRNK used to share buildings with an artist named Farrah Sit. Now, in a full-circle turn of events, Tariq Dixon – who founded TRNK in 2013 – has brought her on board to create a collaborative collection named “Hathor”.

For Sit, whose work often exemplifies soft minimalism, it was a chance to look back on pilgrimages she had made to ancient monolithic sculptures. In addition to the forms and materials she witnessed, Sit had become fixated on their relation to divinity, as well as the timelessness of the aesthetics associated with them.

For TRNK, the artist has crafted different seating options and a range of tables available. Each is handmade in either the US or Portugal by TRNK’s network of skilled craftspeople. Throughout the collection, both soft and hard materials are utilized – a sofa, for example, is upholstered in plush leather, while a coffee table makes use of travertine. “The use of travertine bases within the collection brings to mind a partnership between equal halves, twisting and fitting together like puzzle pieces to support the glass tabletop,” Sit says. “The tables balance substantial curves with defined edges, a negotiation between weight and air.”

According to Dixon, the unveiling of the collaboration marks a number of milestones in both his and Sit’s respective careers. “In many ways, we’ve grown up in the design world together, and it’s been inspiring to see the ways in which her voice has matured,” he says. “This collection – her first foray into seating and tables – is the culmination of that growth and evolution.”

The Hathor collection is available from TRNK now, with prices ranging from $3,895 to $23,695. For more design, check out this surreal installation taking place inside an iconic Oscar Niemeyer building.
