Intricate details are tossed onto the Dunk High and Air Force 1 Low to commemorate the November festivities.

Fall time marks the beginning of the holiday season, and with October set to conclude in just a few weeks time and the start of November encroaching, Nike is feeling festive with its upcoming footwear launches. Its tradition for the Beaverton-based brand to celebrate Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead in english) with celebratory sneakers, and this year the brand has readied special Dunk High and Air Force 1 Low colorway for its all-new “Somos Familia” capsule.
Those of Mexican descent will traditionally commemorate this holiday with ofrendas — altars that usually host certain offerings and imagery of deceased loved ones to help guide their souls back home. The Dunk Highs in this assemblage are formed with a split design that represents salt and water, both of which are common items that are offered up during the November event. Overlays are done up with “Yellow Ochre” exteriors while the toe boxes and quarters come intricately styled with sun-inspired embroidery. The Swoosh’s Día de Muertos logo gets stamped to the lower lateral heel and insoles for extra flair.
Pivoting over to the Air Force 1 Low now, these kicks are inspired by Pan de Muerto — a traditional dish that is baked during the celebration. It is usually shaped in circular fashion to symbolize the cycle of life and death, and that is why you’ll see repeating circles along the rims of the quarter panels and toe boxes. Other key details include the split-colored Swooshes that feature exposed stitchings, shaggy suede overlays and stark black accents that dress up the sole pieces and top of the heels.
Both pairs are slated to launch via Nike come October 26 for $140 USD a piece.
