Samuel Ross, the British visionary behind the London-based imprint A-COLD-WALL*, has announced the recipients of the fourth chapter of The Samuel Ross Black British Artist Grant Programme. The initiative, established in 2020, awards emerging Black British talent across myriad creative disciplines, including fashion, fine art, sculpture, illustration, industrial design, architecture and photography.

Applications were reviewed by an advisory board composed of fashion leaders Grace Wales Bonner, Dr. Gus Casely Hayford (V&A East, Royal College of Art, British Fashion Council, Design Musem and University of Westminster) and Ross himself. Selected based on pillars of talent, creativity and vision, the chapter-four recipients include Cameron Williams and Torisheju Dumi for fashion; Rochelle Nembhard, Ebun Sodipo, Aaron Kudi and Rhea Dillon for fine art and sculpture; Habib Hajallie for illustration; Issi Nanbeyin for industrial design and architecture, and Jebi Ndimuntoh for photography. Notably, each winner receives a £2,500 GBP grant and a mentorship from Ross and the aforementioned advisory board to support their ongoing work.

The path-forging program’s primary goal is to curate trusted communities among artistic industries. Its mission reads: “We believe in growing the creative landscape through talent recognition, academic integration, advocacy, institutional support, long-term partnerships, and long-form dialogues with leadership institutions who recognise that optimised change comes through infrastructure and design thinking.”

Aside from offering grant awards, The Samuel Ross Black British Artist Grant Programme adheres to its agenda via community funding, design problem-solving, resource donations, seed capital and academic integration, all of which center on championing Black creatives.

Elsewhere, Fashion East has opened applications for its Fall/Winter 2023 season showcase.
