Lil Peep’s Wrongful Death Lawsuit Settled Out of Court
The suit was filed by the late rapper’s mother in 2019.
Lil Peep’s mother Liza Womack has received an out-of-court settlement for the lawsuit she filed against the late rapper’s management team in 2019. Lil Peep passed away in 2017 in Arizona due to a drug overdose.
In the suit, Womack accused First Access Entertainment (FAE), as well as Lil Pee’s manager Brian “Chase” Ortega and tour manager Belinda Mercer of wrongful death, negligence and breach of contract. Womack alleged that the named parties encouraged his drug use while on tour, provided him with drugs and pushed him toLil Peep perform even when it became apparent he was unwell.
“If people are held accountable for their actions, I will feel that justice has been done,” Womack told Pitchfork about the suit in 2021. “You learn to live with the pain, and you’re a different person, because when your child dies, the person that you were dies, too. But I will be glad, and I hope to feel satisfaction.”
“The music business is a big thing, and I can’t pretend to change it,” she continued. “But I feel that it’s important for [them] to know that people aren’t going to just walk away and give up. You can’t give up. It’s your kid.”
A trial was set to commence in March 2023 with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa A. Beaudet presiding over the case. Attorneys for Womack and FAE told Judge Beaudet that the case was resolved “in principle,” resulting in an out-of-court settlement. Exact terms of the settlement weren’t made public.
