Italian Classics Collide for the Commemorative size? x PUMA ‘The Godfather Pack’
With three iterations of Puma’s archival Palermo sneaker.
As Francis Ford Coppola’s crowning masterpiece The Godfather turns 50, size? and PUMA team up to pay homage to the movie in a dedicated sneaker pack. Teased last year on size? Previews, the hotly anticipated collaboration has been firmly on the radar of sneakerheads and film lovers alike.
The three-piece sneaker pack sees PUMA delve into its archives as it decorates the 70’s born, Sicilian-inspired Palermo silhouette with a myriad of The Godfather references. From the distinctive colorways to hidden hallmarks, each Palermo iteration is designed to encapsulate iconic scenes of the mafioso cinema classic.
Titled ‘The Wedding’, the rich Olive Green model in the pack is reminiscent of the lush gardens and frothy pink outfits of Connie’s nuptials to Carlo. In a feature seen across all three sneakers, PUMA stamps a selection of famous one-liners in gold foiling under the Palermo’s eyelet flap. For this iteration, the movie quote reads “We go to the mattresses”.
On the more vibrant ‘The Restaurant’ sneaker, the soft suede and mesh are painted with an Electric Blue and cut with a bright pink formstrip to mimic the neon sign of the restaurant where the explosive gunfight takes place. The final sneaker in the pack, punched with the words “Leave the gun, take the cannoli”, comes in the muted beige of ‘The Bar’ and deep red hues of the wine that sloshes throughout the scene.
In the theatrical campaign, photographer Dan Benson draws on these iconic scenes as models pose in the gum-sole sneakers with a range of intrinsically American-Italian settings. Styling also takes cues from this cross-continental connection with Italian tailoring paired with New York-inspired streetwear.
