Jil Sander's Next PUMA Pack Strips Back the Classics

Jil Sander and PUMA are returning to refresh two PUMA classics through a lens of subtraction. ⁠Previewed at the Milan Fashion Week SS27 runway show by guests like King Princess and Space Afrika, the designer label is coming out with a stripped-back variant of the PUMA Speedcat and the PUMA Suede.

Instead of adding to the design of the Speedcat, creative director Simone Bellotti reduces it, replacing the signature Formstrip with a perforated shadow. ⁠Other than the small, golden Jil Sander logo on the lacing system, the Black colorway is entirely monochromatic, giving the smoothly shaped silhouette a luxurious feel in full leather. Taking after the Black colorway, the White Speedcat is also completely monochromatic; however, for those who prefer the signature detail, the white colorway boasts a streamlined suede Formstrip for variety. The new Jil Sander x Speedcat is also joined by a white Jil Sander x PUMA Suede, featuring tonal details to complete the lineup.⁠

The partners’ latest collaboration takes after the SS26 Jil Sander x PUMA K-Street, which dialled in on the slim-sneaker trend. “In recent years, the slim silhouette has become very fashionable again, but I’m not someone who really follows fashion; it’s something I have always liked,” he said in an April interview with Hypebeast. “I’m not a huge fan of the big, chunky silhouettes. A very slim silhouette feels more “pure” in a way; it goes to the essence of the meaning of a shoe, without having too much design or material over it,” he added.
