Storying the life and career of rapper J.Dilla, a biography entitled Dilla Time: The Life And Afterlife Of J Dilla, The Hip-Hop Producer Who Reinvented Rhythm is set to land on February 1.

Curated by Dan Charnas — a long-time collaborator of the late rapper and producer — the 400-page book features in-depth interviews with over 150 family and friends, with discussions ranging from Dilla’s gifted childhood in Detroit and rise as a Grammy-nominated hip-hop producer, to the rare blood disease that caused his premature death at just 32 years old in 2006.

Described as “a different kind of book about music” and “a visual experience with graphics that build those concepts step by step” in the accompanying book description, Dilla Time delves into “the histories of American rhythms: from the birth of soul in Dilla’s own ‘Motown,’ to funk, techno, and disco” too.

Dilla Time: The Life And Afterlife Of J Dilla, The Hip-Hop Producer Who Reinvented Rhythm will be available to pre-order from Macmillan from February 1, retailing at $30 USD.
