Michael Jordan‘s illustrious career was shaped and developed by many a different coach from high school to college to the professional level, but there was none quite as unique as Phil Jackson. Jackson — who was running the show for the Chicago Bulls from 1989 to 1998 — implemented elements of meditation. Bhuddhism and other spiritual practices into his coaching agenda and this zen-inspired mentality inspired the upcoming Air Jordan 4 “Zen Master” colorway.
This forthcoming iteration — which was unveiled as part of Jordan Brand’s Spring 2022 collection — is designed with a vivid upper. As opposed to utilizing the traditional nubuck material for the upper, Jordan Brand invites in a canvas material and styles it with all-over tie dye patterns in an “Amethyst Wave” blend. Solid black accents are distributed to various areas such as the exposed netting, liners, tongue patches, laces midsole molds and Jumpman insignias on the back end. Side “wings,” forefoot eyelets and heel counters are done up with a translucent TPU material, and a pop of “Bright Crimson” shows up on the tongue’s Jordan logos.
