If you’ve been following the recent and frankly ridiculous saga of the Patek Philippe Nautilus or always wanted to put an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak on your wrist but never had the necessary five-figure watch budget, then help may be at hand from the most unlikely of sources.

Better known for its T-Touch touch screen digital sports watches, Tissot has just dropped a new mechanical version of its highly rated PRX steel sports watch.

The 40mm integrated bracelet stainless steel watch now features the bulletproof Powermatic 80 automatic movement, which builds upon the industry workhorse ETA 2824 movement with a host of developments including an anti-magnetic hairspring and 80-hour power reserve.

The PRX is based on a quartz Tissot from 1978 that tapped into the trend for premium steel sports watches of the time and earned the name PRX a few years later with the P and R standing for Precise and Robust while the X referred to the 10 bar water resistance rating. The PRX was re-introduced last year, again with a quartz movement.

Available with black, blue and silver dials featuring a stamped checkered pattern with applied hour markers, the new PRX Powermatic 80 is out now via Tissot, with prices starting at £565 GBP (or $650 USD).
