Willow Smith Announces Release Date for Upcoming Album and Drops New Track "Lipstick"
‘Lately I Feel Everything’ is inspired by Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance and Paramore.
Willow Smith, known in music as Willow, has shared a new single, titled “Lipstick,” set to appear on her forthcoming album, Lately I Feel Everything, out on July 16.
The successor to 2020’s The Anxiety — a collaborative record with Tyler Cole — will also include the previously released, rock-leaning track “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l,” featuring Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. According to Pitchfork, the album is said to be inspired by Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance and Paramore, so it’s safe to say the experimental artist’s next body of work will land at the intersection of pop and punk.

“Lipstick” dives into Willow’s psyche, metaphorically alluding to mental obstacles and examining the process of understanding one’s own identity in its lyrics. “Lipstick on a mirror / Saying who you want to be / Vision gets dimmer / The room is closing in on me,” she sings in the first verse.
“I just wanted to let loose with this album. I wanted to have fun and be young and not be so existential and worrying all the time,” Willow said in a statement. “I thought this was a really dope outlet for a new energy I wanted to bring to my music.”
