NLE Choppa is accused of sampling a track from Atlanta rapper Kilo Ali‘s 1997 debut album, Top Shotta. Ali has also claimed that Choppa borrowed the flow of the original song and used it without any formal clearance or permission.

Music Business Worldwide reports that Choppa’s 2020 track “Make Em Say” which features Latto sounds, bears great similarity to Kilo Ali’s 1997 song, “Love In Ya Mouth” with Big Boi. Specifically, Ali criticizes the flow of Choppa’s song stating that its the “flow and pitch of the post-chorus” sound incredibly familiar.

Ali has gone as far as citing that the song lyrics are on infringing on the meaning and lyrics of his original song. The lawsuit states, “The lyrics of the chorus and post-chorus of the Infringing Work resemble the lyrics of the chorus of the Original Work in word, sound, and meaning, which invoke the heart of the Original Work.” NLE Choppa has reportedly not given and accreditation to Ali for the work and thus, the Atlanta rapper is demanding “all gains, profits, and advantages derived by Defendants as a result of their unfair trade practices and unfair competition, as well as all gains, profits, and advantages derived by Defendants as a result of their infringement of Plaintiff’s copyright.”

NLE Choppa has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Elsewhere in music, Tyler, the Creator reminded fans that he is still a rapper and to not “let the wig get you twisted.”
