FedEx Is Testing Out Self-Driving Cars That Will Deliver Packages Straight to Your Door
Currently partnering with Nuro for the autonomous couriers.

FedEx and Nuro have entered into a multi-year partnership that sees Nuro testing its next-generation of self-driving delivery vehicles with FedEx.
Through Nuro’s pilot program, FedEx is able to expand into robotics. However, this move proves to be quite big for Nuro as well as it provides the company with the opportunity to expand into parcel logistics after previously highlighting grocery deliveries and pizza. The partnership will allow FedEx to better manage its capacity s well as cut costs and tackle less-than-ideal delivery routes.
With autonomous vehicles added to its repertoire, it places FedEx at a competitive edge against its rivals like UPS who are already testing their own self-driving trucks. Should the pilot program prove to be a success, it opens up other opportunities for FedEx to explore other avenues using autonomous vehicle logistics. Currently, the Nuro program is the newest addition to the company’s delivery portfolio, reportedly expected to bring same-day autonomous and specialty delivery devices.
This past April saw the initial roll-out of the pilot testing in the Houston area. The self-driving delivery cars are set to expand to other parts of the nation in the upcoming months.
