Serving as one of the most dominant champions in MMA history, Anderson Silva shocked the boxing world with his victory over decorated Mexican professional boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. during the “Tribute To The Kings” event.

The former UFC Middleweight Champion who held the title for seven years released by the UFC last year pulled off an upset with a split decision (75-77, 77-75, 77-75) against the boxing great. Despite stepping into the ring as a heavy underdog, “The Spider” overtook the former WBC Middleweight Champion at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Scheduled at 182 pounds with eight three-minute rounds, Chavez Jr. missed weight by 2.4 pounds forfeiting $100,000 USD of his purse. Despite a slow start, by the third round, Silva started to show his striking prowess taunting Chavez Jr. by dropping his hands. In the fourth round, Silva began landing precise combinations, ultimately opening a cut near Chavez Jr.’s right eye in the seventh round. Overall the MMA fighter landed 99-53 in total punches and 60-41 in power punches, per CompuBox.
