Bill and Melinda Gates Have Filed for Divorce After 27 Years of Marriage
The two will continue their philanthropic work together.

After 27 years of marriage, Bill and Melinda Gates have announced their divorce.
Taking to Twitter to reveal the news, both Bill and Melinda Gates posted a statement which reads: “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”
Despite their divorce, the two say they will continue their work together at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a philanthropic initiative they founded back in 2000. The Foundation focuses efforts on improving public health, education, and working towards reducing climate change. By 2019, it held net assets of more than $43 billion USD, with $36 billion USD coming from the Gates themselves between 1994 to 2018. Recent grants include a $1.75 billion USD fund for vaccine development and research to combat the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
