Zenith has dropped a robust new take on its Defy chronograph, embellishing on and expanding the current design as though encasing added a titanium suit of armor.

The Defy Extreme takes the case size up to 45mm (the standard Defy is 44mm) and adds a 12-sided ring underneath the round bezel, while guards around the chronograph pushers also serve to protect a larger crown. Overall the new design is more angular and well, yes, extreme.

Zenith is launching the Defy Extreme collection with models in microblasted titanium (which results in an almost black appearance), matt brushed titanium with microblasted titanium and blued accents and finally a bi-metal option featuring microblasted titanium and polished 18k rose gold.

The movement is the same spectacular twin-escapement (a high beat 36,000 vph for timekeeping then switching over to 360,000 vph for chronograph duties) El Primero 21 chronograph used elsewhere in the Defy collection while the new case is water resistant to 200m.

Each is supplied on a finish-matched titanium bracelet and accompanied by interchangeable rubber and Velcro fabric straps.

The Defy Extreme Chronograph collection is available now via Zenith, with prices starting at $18,000 USD.

In other watch news, Seiko teams up with skate brand Evisen for a collaborative collection including a Sushi-themed watch.
