Wes Anderson’s 'The French Dispatch' to Receive Cannes 2021 Premiere

Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun has received a new premiere date.

According to reports, the highly-anticipated film will join the prestigious lineup of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival alongside Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard’s Annette and Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz’s Official Competition. The forthcoming festival, which was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, is set to run from July 6 to 17.

The film was initially scheduled to hit theaters in July and August 2020 in the U.S. and U.K. respectively, but was replaced by Disney’s Mulan. The French Dispatch stars Benicio Del ToroTimothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton, Bill MurrayAdrien Brody, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright and more, and follows the story of an American magazine published in a fictional 20th-century French city. A series of stories from the publication’s final issues will be told over the course of the film, including “The Concrete Masterpiece” and “Revisions to a Manifesto.”
