Ty Dolla $ign Celebrates Freedom In 'By Yourself' Music Video With Tiffany Haddish and Jhené Aiko
A West Coast-inspired clip.
Hot on the heels of an electronic collaboration with Marshmello and Ali Gatie for “Do You Believe,” Ty Dolla $ign is splashing back into the scene with a West Coast-inspired music video for “By Yourself” featuring Jhené Aiko, Bryson Tiller, Mustard, and starring comedian Tiffany Haddish.
The video, co-directed by Alex Bittan and Ty Dolla $ign, opens to an angry voicemail left by Haddish where she admonishes a partner for being selfish. The video then slowly transitions into the light-hearted introductory melody to the song as colorful shots of Ty and Haddish dancing in front of lowriders interchange with solo visuals of the lead rapper. Haddish celebrates the breakup as the chorus builds into the self-empowering lyrics, “You ain’t never ‘fraid to be by yourself.”
Bryson Tiller then takes the reins before Jhené Aiko steals the spotlight dancing in front of vintage cars with a gold “Chilombo” decal, a direct reference to her 2020 album Chilombo. The visual concludes with jump cuts between Haddish and each musician joyfully dancing to the final line: “You don’t need a man, you do it by yourself.”
2021 has been the year of star-studded remixes for Ty Dolla $ign. Check out his last collaborative work with J Blavin, Tyga, YG, and Post Malone, titled “Juicy.”
