Marking the second ‘Power’ spinoff.’
Starz has officially released the new trailer and premiere date for Power prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan is the second Power spinoff series that is set to take audiences back to the ’90s, but this time centered around Kanan’s young life. Kanan, a young drug dealer working in New York City, was originally played by 50 Cent in the original series, Power. As a part of the franchise, the new series continues to see the characters navigate the sprawling family drama in addition to the events that affect Kanan Stark’s coming of age.
This series follows 15-year-old Kanan, who is the only child of Raquel “Raq” Thomas, a cocaine distributor with an emerging web of dealers across the city. The show explores themes of violence, legacy and identity, diving deep into the uniquely complicated dynamic between a parent and child.
The cast for Power Book III: Raising Kanan stars Patina Miller as Raquel Thomas, Mekai Curtis as the titular character of Kanan Stark, as well as Quincy Brown as Crown Camacho amongst others. The series is executive produced by Courtney Kemp, alongside 50 Cent, through his G-Unit Film and Television company. Sascha Penn is the series’ creator and showrunner.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan premieres on July 18 on Starz.
