Omega has released a trio of new Velcro Moonwatch straps, reflecting how the brand’s most celebrated model first made it into space.
The two-piece 20mm straps are offered in black, white and space-age silver and feature NASA‘s ‘meatball’ logo, first introduced in 1959, illustrating how close the Swiss watch brand’s ties remain with the American space agency and reflecting the mid-century era, when the prospect of space travel captured the world’s imagination for the first time.
The non-woven polyester straps are certainly more authentic than any of Speedy’s standard issue stainless steel bracelets, which wouldn’t fit over an astronaut’s space suit during space walks and needed to be replaced with oversized textile straps secured with Velcro.
The straps are available now via Omega, priced $190 USD.
