To celebrate the historic Apollo 11 moon landing on July 21, 1969, Swatch has announced a highly exclusive, history-steeped addition to its popular collaborative lineup: the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon 1969. Limited to exactly 1,969 individually numbered pieces, the release cleverly centers around OMEGA‘s proprietary 18K Moonshine™ Gold.
In a nostalgic twist, Swatch melted down period-correct OMEGA spare parts from that exact era in its own foundry to produce the 11 grams of Moonshine™ Gold used to form each watch’s dial, hands, crown, and pushers — a deliberate weight that serves as a playful nod to the Apollo 11 mission number.
The 42 mm chronograph features a matte black Bioceramic case paired with a gold‑finished tachymeter bezel, recessed counters and vintage OMEGA typography. Additional details include a battery cover engraved with a golden Moon and footprint referencing Apollo 11’s landing site, while each watch is individually numbered on the case flank. A black rubber strap with Velcro closure and moon‑textured lining completes the commemorative design.
Purchasing the Mission to the Moon 1969 requires filling out an Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application (ESTA) online between July 16 and July 21, 2026. Only 1,969 applicants will be approved, granting the right to buy the watch at $570 USD/ 500 CHF — a price set according to the cost of gold on July 21, 1969, rather than today’s market value. This playful, historically rooted release underscores the MoonSwatch’s cultural resonance while offering collectors a rare, story‑driven edition.
