New Balance Shares Its "Shot by the Workers" 991 Anniversary Video
A short film shot by factory workers from the brand’s Flimby location.
To mark twenty years since the release its iconic 991 sneaker, New Balance has unveiled its plans to release a series of anniversary releases throughout 2021. Famed for becoming the first of the brand’s 99x series to feature an ABZORB window in the forefoot and the heel, the 991 has gone on to become one of New Balance’s most popular lifestyle silhouettes thanks to its retro aesthetic and plethora of colorways.
Kicking off its string of releases, New Balance last week launched two anniversary editions of the 991. Boasting a tonal gray upper, one iteration features dark gray branding and accents, while the other takes on more vibrant pops of teal.
To accompany this release, New Balance set about producing a film around the 991 from inside its famed Flimby factory. However as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, the brand asked workers to shoot the film themselves, showing a glimpse of what day inside the world of shoemaking entails. Aptly entitled “Shot by the Workers”, the video takes us through the journey of the 991 and the process behind its creation.
You can view “Shot by the Workers” above and shop the 991 itself via the New Balance webstore.
