The Internet's Patrick Paige II Enlists Steve Lacy, Allen Love and Durand Bernarr for "Whisper"
A post-credit scene featuring Syd also teases an upcoming collab.
Patrick Paige II has teamed up with Allen Love, Durand Bernarr and fellow The Internet member Steve Lacy for his new single “Whisper (Want My Luv).”
The latest track hears influences of late ’70s funk and hip-hop, and arrives with an accompanying music video shot in the style of a late ’70s comedy B-movie. Glamorous and hazy, Paige II and his friends do their best to get the attention of the airline stewardess, creating a charming atmosphere for the visual. The video ends with a post-credit scene featuring Syd and teasing another track.
“Whisper (Want My Luv)” is a cut from Paige II’s upcoming solo album If I Fail Are We Still Cool, out May 21 via Fat Posssum. “The high life, and the risks of falling, run through If I Fail…, an ode to Patrick’s climb in the music industry. Runways, both airline and fashion, appear in his verses, which reveal the anxiety that runs beneath all this success,” a statement reads. ”‘Try to count my blessings / I just count mistakes’ he raps, acutely aware that the higher you go the further you can fall. Can you blame him for asking for forgiveness in advance?”
