Netflix Hit Thriller 'Bird Box' Receives Spanish Spinoff
Filming is set to begin later this year.
Netflix hit thriller Bird Box is expanding its universe with a Spanish-language spinoff. The film is set to reunite the film’s producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan with Netflix.
In order to truly give the film a distinctly Spanish stamp, Netflix has recruited Spanish writer-director duo Alex and David Pastor to helm the film. The pair is no stranger to working with Netflix having worked on another thriller, The Occupant for the streamer. Alex and David also created HBO Max‘s series, The Head.
Netflix has yet to reveal the title of the spin-off, but it is said to be the first of many local-language spin-offs for the Bird Box franchise. Casting has also yet to be decided, but production is due to start by the end of the year in Spain.
Bird Box was a huge hit for the streaming giant and was seen by 89 million households in the first month of release, the second-highest ever for any Netflix original films. Executive producers will see the return of Ainsely Davies, Brian Williams and Susanne Bier, director of the original film.
In case you missed it, HBO Max is set to debut its ad-supported subscription tier in June 2021.
