Justin Bieber Sends "a Love Letter" to the Toronto Maple Leafs
The artist is a longtime fan and dedicated a new highlight reel-esque visual for “Hold On” to the NHL team.
After dropping an initial video for “Hold On” earlier this week, Justin Bieber has followed it up with another visual dedicated to the the Toronto Maple Leafs — which Bieber characterizes as “a love letter” to the NHL team.
The music video for the song, a single from Bieber’s upcoming album Justice, plays as a highlight reel of sorts for the team, with clips of games, locker room exchanges and interactions with fans.
“I mean obviously ‘Biebs’ is a very special person, and an incredibly talented artist,” Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly said in an NHL press release. “He’s eager to work with the team and spend time around the guys. I think that’s a pretty cool opportunity, and we were very fortunate to play for this organization, and I guess it’s just one of those things that kind of comes with it.”
Bieber grew up near Toronto in London, Ontario and has a long-standing relationship with the Toronto NHL team. The artist has a close friendship with Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, and was (prior to COVID-19 restrictions on fan attendance) a regular at the team’s games.
“Obviously Auston’s relationship with him is pretty tight, so it’s fun to have a musical talent like him be a big fan of us,” goalie Frederik Andersen said, according to the Toronto Star.
The artist has joined the team on several occasions for casual skates as well. A series of images of the artist skating with Matthews, Marner and Tyson Barrie in December 2019 even inspired a bit of jealousy from Drake.
Watch the video above and keep an eye out for Justice, dropping sometime this month.
