IWC has developed a new watch strap made from paper and recycled materials as an alternative to its leather straps.

The TimberTex straps are produced using low-impact paper-based material from responsible sources and are produced in 60 separate stages, including being padded with recycled microfibre and finished with recycled thread.

The new straps, which have been developed with reduced environmental impact in mind, are even water-resistant and passed all of IWC quality testing.

TimberTex is composed of 80% natural plant fibers, using cellulose from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified trees grown in the organisation’s European forests. The material is produced in Italy using traditional paper making techniques for an irregular grain and supple texture, before being colored in one of three shades with plant-based dyes.

The TimberTex straps are currently being offered with IWC’s Portugieser Chronograph, Portugieser Automatic 40, Portofino Automatic and Portofino Chronograph. They are available in blue, brown and black.

Elsewhere in watches, Phillips set to sell watches, jewellery and modern art side-by-side in online sale.
