The long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy‘s 1988 film Coming to America has finally landed on Amazon Prime Video, and celebrating the launch of the aptly-titled Coming 2 America is an array of promotional goods courtesy of No Vacancy Inn, Apple, and more.
Tremaine Emory‘s No Vacancy Inn has drawn inspiration from Semmi’s wardrobe in the original film, producing a military-style bomber jacket that’s limited to just 200 pieces. In the film, we see Semmi wearing a varsity jacket adorned with typical tourist-like badges, and this has inspired the jacket that features similar patches all over it combining “I ♡ NY” with references to No Vacancy Inn, the continent of Africa, and the recently released film. Altogether, the patches also reference Prince Akeem’s Zamundan roots and his travels to the Big Apple.
In complete contrast to the bomber jacket, Apple has offered up 150 pairs of its AirPods Max Headphones, which coincide with a project by the multidisciplinary artist Gianni Lee. Once again, Lee draws from the vibrant aesthetic of Zamunda’s royal palace, but also looks to ancient African fresco paintings for his limited-to-100 art piece that comes situated on top of the Apple headphones, while the tech sits underneath in a custom case.
The collaborative kit is completed with a custom beaded bracelet by L’Enchanteur, which comprises brass beads that are strung on a gold-filled chain and dipped in 24k gold, once more referencing Prince Akeem’s jewelry. The entire kit can be seen above, while those looking to get their hands on it will have to participate in Deuxmoi’s Instagram giveaway.
In other news, Eddie Murphy may be considering his return to stand-up comedy after the pandemic.
