Nets General Manager Sean Marks said in a statement that the team was “fortunate to add a player of Blake’s caliber” to their roster. “Blake is a versatile frontcourt player with a long track record of success in our league, and we’re excited about the impact he’ll make for us both on and off the court in Brooklyn,” he said.
The 31-year-old has appeared in 642 games across 11 NBA seasons. He most recently played with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2010 to 2018 and the Detroit Pistons from 2018 until this year.
Sports journalist Shams Charania tweeted that Griffin would wear No.2 with the Nets. Griffin agreed to a contract buyout with the Pistons on Friday in order to secure his free agent status. According to CBS Sports, Griffin returned over $13 million USD as part of the agreement.
“He has been a consummate pro and we wish him continued success,” the Pistons tweeted on Friday when announcing news of Griffin’s departure.
