adidas Transforms the Samba Into a City Cycling Silhouette
Recreating the iconic silhouette for a new audience.
adidas has returned to one of its most-loved silhouettes, reimagining the Samba as a sneaker for city cyclists. Dubbed the Velosamba, the sneaker mixes the Samba’s iconic design with a range of details to help the cyclist as they travel around the city.
As well as the classic Samba upper, the sneaker features a recycled nylon insole board, which gives extra stiffness for the rider. Elsewhere, the rubber cup outsole has a cut-out window giving access for the two-bolt cleat — allowing the wearer to easily clip on to the bike — while reflective hits on the Three Stripe and heel give extra visibility.
Announcing the new Velosamba silhouette, adidas Cycling general manager Celine Del Genes said, “The Velosamba draws on our street style heritage and expertise in cycling to bring something truly unique to cyclists. Our ambition is to cater to the needs of a rapidly developing new cycling culture by creating accessible high-quality products that empower more people to clip in and ride.”
