NISSIN's New Donbei Tempura Soba Noodles Are a Full Meter Long
The length of the noodles is seen as a symbol of long life in East Asian culture.

After collaborating with UNIQLO on HEATTECH noodle cups, NISSIN has returned with another addition to its Donbei instant noodle line. Introducing Donbei Tempura Soba Longer-Than-Usual Soba to Wish You Longevity (Donbei Tempura Soba Istumo Yori Nagai Choju Kigan Soba), the reimagined take on the signature flavor features noodles that are a full meter long.
The reason for the 3.3 feet noodles is because soba is an auspicious food to eat during new year’s in Japan, with the length of the noodles seen as a symbol of long life in East Asian culture. It is important to note that good Japanese table manners requires you to slurp your noodles, with cutting or twirling noodles considered rude. It is also very key to not bite through noodles to let them fall back into the bowl.
NISSIN’s Donbei Tempura Soba Longer-Than-Usual Soba to Wish You Longevity features a katsuo bonito dashi stock broth, mixed tempura fritter, green onion and a side of shichimi red pepper flakes for a kick of spice.
Priced at ¥193 JPY (approximately $1.83 USD), NISSIN’s Donbei Tempura Soba Longer-Than-Usual Soba to Wish You Longevity will be available in supermarkets, grocery stores and other retail locations in Japan February 8 with stateside imports expected to come in the near future.
