Tokyo and Paris-based label Maison Kitsuné has announced its new Creative Director, with British designer Marcus Clayton taking over all seasonal menswear and womenswear collections. Clayton has been working with the label since 2020, and will oversee the brand as it heads into its 20th anniversary celebrations in 2022.

Prior to working with Maison Kitsuné, Clayton has worked at a number of luxury houses. His career began with his graduation from Central Saint Martins in 1997, before spells working with Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix and in the Louis Vuitton studios. He has also worked at Givenchy, Balmain and Versace, and was most recently design director at Rihanna and LVMH’s Fenty label.

Discussing the appointment, Clayton said:

“I want to enlarge people’s perceptions of Maison Kitsuné. Maison Kitsuné has an authentic DNA that combines Paris and Tokyo lifestyles, so the goal is to amplify this through a wider fashion offering that showcases our everyday creativity and savoir-faire. There is great creative dynamism as we embark on this momentous year. Everything is done with commitment but in a relaxed way, which has been my impression of Maison Kitsuné all along.”

In other fashion news, Guram Gvasalia was recently announced as the new Vetements Creative Director.
