With Russell Wilson currently sidelined with a finger injury for the coming weeks, the Seattle Seahawks are desperate are reportedly on the lookout for someone to cover for the star quarterback while he is out.

In a recent interview with ESPN, head coach Pete Carroll commented on having reached out to Cam Newton sharing, “Just so you know, we have talked to him. We’re talking to everybody that could help us.” Carroll revealed very little and did not go into details regarding how serious the conversation was nor if the gears are in motion.

Newton is a recent free agent after the New England Patriots cut the QB due to COVID-related protocols. Just last week, Newton confirmed on his vlog that he has been vaccinated and “hell yeah, I still want to play football.” This was the first time Newton acknowledged his vaccination status after much speculation that he was against the protocol. In regards to getting calls from different NFL teams, Newton has also mentioned that he has “been getting offers” but is looking for the right fit. However, the QB has not mentioned the Seahawks in particular.

Wilson is required to go into surgery and has been placed on an injured reserve with a four-to-eight-week timetable to return to the field. The Seahawks’ recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers saw Wilson miss his first start in his 10 seasons in the NFL. The Seahawks are now 2-4 and last place in the NFC West.

In other sports news, polls have found Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons as the most disliked NBA players.
