Spanish Fortnite Streamer TheGrefg Smashes Twitch's All-Time Viewership Record
Breaking all previous records with over 2 million concurrent viewers.
Spanish Twitch streamer and EU Heretics team owner, TheGrefg broke Twitch’s concurrent viewership record with nearly 2.5 million live viewers tuning in to watch him reveal his Fortnite Icon series skin.
In the livestream, fans watched TheGrefg’s reaction as he finds out he has broken Twitch’s previous viewership records. There are currently eight outfits in Fortnite’s Icon Series skins, including TheGrefg’s, as the Icon Series skins are only reserved for the game’s top creators. The reveal of his skin launched him past two million concurrent viewers as word got out about TheGrefg’s milestone record.
With that single stream, TheGrefg broke the record for most concurrent viewers on an individual stream, also smashing Tyler “Ninja” Blevins previous accomplishment. In the past, Fortnite held the record for most viewers across Twitch, with 2.3 million concurrent viewers, however, that record was pulled from numerous channels. With TheGrefg’s 2.4 million views, the streamer has also singlehandedly beaten Fortnite. The stream was also an all-time new record view on Twitch, far exceeding the 1.1 million viewership held by esports league Eleague TV.
Over the years, international streamers, especially Spanish streamers have continued to grow in popularity, occupying a handful of the top most-viewed slots. In 2020, four of the top ten Twitch streamers were international streamers, three of them primarily Spanish-speaking. The success of TheGrefg shows that international audiences are increasing immensely and is expected to force Twitch to expand into broader gaming communities.
