Issey Miyake Debuts Packable "Compact" Series Garments for SS21
A concise assortment of travel-friendly layering pieces.
After introducing a collaborative capsule with artist Tadanori Yokoo, Issey Miyake has provided a closer look at one of the capsules launching as part of its Spring/Summer 2021 collection, which was introduced in full late last year. The “Compact” series is a new lineup of packable garments debuting for SS21, comprising a brief range of versatile garments in a high tech textile.
Comprising two coats, a skirt, pants and dress, this debut assortment is cut from a bespoke polyester that’s crisp, lightweight and breathable. Offered in light blue, pink, black, beige and white, the flowing items can be easily compacted into a stylish case, which is attached to the exterior of each piece. Miyake cites a design ethos of “wear→fold→carry” which highlights the utilitarian nature of the apparel, which all resists water and wrinkling with ease. Contrast piping and generous cuts promise comfort even amidst warm weather, while thoughtful touches — like carrying straps that carry over from bag to coat — ensure bolstered versatility.
