HBO Max Delays 'The Boondocks' Reboot Release
The upcoming series will feature two seasons and a 50-minute special.

The Boondocks reboot from HBO Max has been delayed once again.
According to reports, an exact release date was not specified and only stated “later in 2021,” meaning it could see another postponement if needed. A reason behind the delay was not given.
HBO Max ordered 24 episodes across two seasons in June 2019, with the episodes originally scheduled to premiere by Fall 2020. A “complete re-imagining” of the series “for the modern era,” the reboot will feature creator Aaron McGruder, who left the original show before its fourth and final season, as the showrunner. A 50-minute special is also in the works.
“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today,” McGruder previously said. “It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
