A YouTuber Modified a Classic iPod To Stream Music From Spotify
Resurrecting a 17-year-old device.
A YouTuber named Guy Dupont has managed to breathe new air into his 17-year-old iPod by making it stream music from Spotify.
Unlike conventional jailbreaking and hacking for Apple devices, Dupont opted instead to replace the iPod’s internal hardware altogether, swapping out the antiquated technology with a tiny programmable computer called a Raspberry Pi Zero W. With this replacement, he was able to give the device both wireless LAN and Bluetooth connectivity, and even managed to get it streaming from Spotify’s massive music and podcast library. Of course, with modern technology available in significantly smaller dimensions, Dupont was also able to add in a few new upgrades, including a color LCD display, a rechargeable 1,000 mAh battery pack, and even a small motor to enable haptic feedback.
For those who might want to give this mod a try at home, you can check out Dupont’s full video above.
