Berluti's Latest Footwear Design Flips the Humble Boat Shoe
The “Twist” is an artisanal take on a classic.
To kick off Spring 2021, Berluti has already introduced a new sneaker design but that’s not all: the Kris Van Assche-led luxury house is also serving a new take on another seasonal silhouette. The “Twist” shoe is a revised boat shoe, boasting a variety of updated touches and the high-end craft expected of Berluti.
Resting atop a thick, expanded rubber bootmaker sole, the Twist executes signature boat shoe elements — grippy outsole, leather laces, apron stitching — with finer detail than any boat shoe before. Hand-stitched apron and heel panels inform the canvas and Venezia leather iteration, which is laden with Berlti’s crest, Scritto accents and stylized “B” atop an upper that’s detailed with a TDM Intenso patina. Its outsole is lightweight but substantial, offering an edgy appeal that matches dangling D-rings.
Its counterpart is realized entirely in Venezia leather, sporting a hand-finished Brun patina and specially-lasted sole unit. Studs grace the heel to further advance the shape of the trad-friendly boat shoe, quietly breathing youthful vigor into a timeless silhouette.
The Twist boat shoe is available via Berluti’s website and physical stores now, with price revealed upon request.
Berluti isn’t the only brand playfully remixing familiar shapes; Maison Margiela recently introduced its tabi-toed Reebok Classic.
