Travis Scott Enlists M.I.A. and Young Thug for New Single "FRANCHISE"

Travis Scott has enlisted M.I.A. and Young Thug for his latest single, “FRANCHISE.”
Clocking in at a little over three minutes, the track features production work from Chase B and Teddy Walton, and was originally previewed under the name “White Tee” during the 10th episode of .WAV RADIO. “FRANCHISE” pays homage to the Atlanta hip-hop crew Dem Franchize Boys (hence the initial title), and utilizes an interesting fusion of contrasting yet complementing flows from Scott, M.I.A. and Thugger. The Cactus Jack label head also recently dropped off accompanying merch for the single — still referencing Dem Franchize Boys — hinting at Scott’s supposedly forthcoming label, Cacti, and the mysterious Utopia project.
The music video was shot in Michael Jordan’s Chicago mansion, which has been on the market since 2012 with opening shots cut from the Netflix documentary series The Last Dance. Scott also detailed how he reached out to M.I.A. to collaborate on the track to Zane Lowe and Apple Music. “When I finished the song, I couldn’t think of nobody else that I could probably just maybe like, body this shit. You know what I’m saying? Body this shit like as hard as like anyone else, any other rapper, any other artists. And just that presence, man. We ain’t felt this presence in a long time. I’m just trying to get this gig sh*t like right man. We got to get better, right? You know what I’m saying? Like all of this, the energy man, music, beats, raps, God! Everything, she’s the illest of all time.”
Scott announced on Twitter that he is premiering the visual for “FRANCHISE” exclusively in select IMAX theaters. “I DIRECTED THIS FILM FOR THIS SAGA OF UTOPIA MY GUY CHRIS NOLAN LETS US ROCK IN ALL THE IMAXES WORLD WIDE. GO WATCH THE IMAX EXPERIENCE TONIGHT,” he wrote. La Flame also shared a handwritten note from Nolan, who he recently worked with for his TENET cut “The Plan,” where the filmmaker expressed his excitement, “Travis– Love the video (shot on film, no less!). I can’t wait to hear it on the IMAX speakers, and see those sheep stampede across the giant screen as part of a Travis/Tenet/Travis sandwich!”
