SXSW Moves Online for 2021
However, organizers are still working with city and health officials for a 2021 physical event.
South by Southwest is moving its week-long festivities online for 2021.
Set to take place from March 16 to March 20, 2021, SXSW Online will feature all the activities of a regular event — the SXSW Film Festival screenings, SXSW Music Festival showcases, conference keynotes and sessions, networking and exhibitions. Despite the digital experience and COVID-19 putting all physical activities to a halt, organizers are still working hand-in-hand with the City of Austin and public health authorities on plans for a 2021 physical event.
Entries and proposals for SXSW, SXSW EDU and the SXSW Film Festivals open October 6. The lineup for the 2021 Music Festival will be curated by programming staff, and priority will be given to showcase presenters and artists who were originally scheduled for the 2020 event.
The 2020 South by Southwest event was cancelled just a week prior its supposed start date due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Tom Cruise will ride aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon for his first voyage to outer space.
