Nike Sportswear‘s Air Max 1 may have debuted in 1987, but its new “Iron Grey” makeup is all about the ’90s. Borrowing hues from from the iconic Air Max 95 “Neon” while differentiating itself with alternate embellishments, prints and patterns, the “Iron Grey” encapsulates two eras of Air Max.

In true “Neon” fashion, the uppers mix shades of grey and black with bright green accents. Mudguards are built from stark black suede, Swooshes from textured black leather and and toeboxes from soft gray mesh. Leather and nubuck overlays tap various shades of gray as well. EVA midsoles are done up in white with neon Air Max units, and outsoles take on two-tone rubber.

What saves these Nike shoes from being a mere homage, however, are the ’90s-inspired prints and patterns. The left foot serves grayscale camo on the front and grayscale plaid patterns on the heel, while the right shoe inverses plaid and camo placement for an alternate look. Each also supplies a rubberized badge on the neon-trimmed tongue and a more traditional motif on the rear to round things off.

The Nike Air Max 1 “Iron Grey” is available in select sizes on the Nike webstore. The MSRP is set at $130 USD.
