FKJ Performs 'Ylang Ylang EP' Live From Stunning Home Studio
Featuring a special appearance from Dreamville signee Bas for their collab “Risk.”
With social distancing protocols still in place for most of the world, FKJ treated his fans to a special live performance of his Ylang Ylang EP.
Filmed in his gorgeous home studio with tall windows and lush green surroundings, the multifaceted French-Kiwi musician performed five out of six tracks from his 2019 project. FKJ can be seen singing, tweaking with his controller pad and playing the guitar, piano and saxophone for his multilayered cuts. He’s also joined by collaborator Bas for their joint “Risk,” while the rest of the setlist includes “10 Years Ago,” “Ylang Ylang,” “Brother” and “100 roses.”
Ylang Ylang EP is billed as a culmination of FKJ’s feelings during its creation, which was done in a remote location in a Southeast Asian jungle. “It’s not a single; I want to present it a more like a conceptual one, like a film scoring of that time and place,” he said in a statement. “Last year I spent about six months in a very remote tropical place where I setup a studio. There is almost no one there. No electricity. I was making music out of a generator that was running only by night. The most beautiful landscapes, mountains, beaches. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. When I made music there it felt kind of like a dream state.”
