Disney released a new trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Mulan directed by Niki Caro, which follows Hua Mulan (Yifei Liu) as she pretends to be a man to protect her disabled father from fighting an invading force during wartime. The film was originally supposed to debut in March as a tentpole film for Disney, but after several delayed due to COVID-19, Walt Disney Company has decided to premiere the film on Disney+ with an additional $29.99 USD fee as part of its monthly subscription. However, the company has detailed that the film will always be accessible as long as you remain subscribed to the platform.
The new payment method is also advertised in the trailer above, with Disney describing the purchase as “With Premier Access” with “Additional Fee Required” disclaimer in smaller type. The footage above is also more action-packed than previous trailers for the film. It focuses specifically on Mulan’s role as a woman fighting in a male-dominated army. It features several battle scenes, including a couple of setpieces reminiscent of its animated counterpart.
Mulan begins streaming on September 4 and also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li.
In other entertainment news, a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is officially in the works.
