The UFC is showcasing its coronavirus testing process with full transparency in a new documentary series centered around the creation of UFC Fight Island.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship was one of the first major sports leagues to resume operations during the COVID-19 pandemic after UFC President Dana White partnered with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. The United Arab Emirates’ Yas Island location now hosts “Fight Island” with UFC 251 scheduled for tonight (July 11, 2020) with five fights on the main card in the pay per view event. Further “Fight Nights” will take place on July 15, 18 and 25 featuring international fighters.
The behind-the-scenes look showcases the 10-mile “safe zone” on Yas Island and the infrastructure put in place to maximize fighters’ safety and health. Athletes have to undergo five rounds of testing in order to be eligible. In the 15-minute episode one, camera crews follow participants on flights to Abu Dabi and more leading up to tonight’s fight. UFC talent Din Thomas even detailed his positive test in an emotional reveal. Watch the full documentary above.
